Since 2008 we have been running an eleven-question survey which is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC using methodology licensed from Rasmussen Reports, LLC.

Respondents are asked to agree, disagree, or indicate "not sure/don't know" to the following statements: (1) End corporate welfare. Government should not give handouts to business; (2) Government should remove barriers to international free trade; (3) People should be able to control their own retirement. Social Security should be privatized; (4) Government welfare should be replaced with private charity; (5) Taxes and government spending should be cut by 50% or more; (6) The United States Department of Defense spending should be maintained at 4% of Gross Domestic Product; (7) The US Department of Education should be eliminated; (8) Health Savings Accounts should replace Medicare and Medicaid; (9) The Department of Agriculture should be eliminated; (10) Global warming is not a threat to the world; (11) The Endangered Species Act should be repealed.

The survey is taken annually at both the national level and also in El Paso County. Average % agreement for the national survey has been 2008 - 34; 2009 - 35; 2010 - 38; 2011 - 38; 2012 - 40. For El Paso County the results have been 2008 - 41; 2009 - 43; 2010- 47; 2011- 45. Margin of Sampling Error, +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

These surveys of 1000 Likely Voters were conducted by Pulse Opinion Research on or about February 1 each year for the national surveys and on or about May 1 each year for the El Paso County surveys.
